Movie Snob Review of Call Me By Your Name
| Jan212018The second movie I saw on Thursday night was one that I had been wanting to see for a while now. It was Call Me By Your Name. This is certainly not a movie for everyone. It’s pretty artsy and has some fairly graphic sex scenes. With that being said, the acting is spot on. I really, really enjoyed the music and the scenery was great too.
This is a story about a young man who is seventeen and trying to figure himself out. He’s struggling with his sexuality as he lives through a summer in northern Italy. As he’s going through all of this, he’s also continuing his education in music. He’s a very talented musician who is very smart and enjoys reading and loves all the culture he is surrounded by.
This was a film that had some really great dialog. This is a spoiler, so don’t read the next part if you don’t want to know too much. The scene at the end with the boy’s father was amazing. He gives his son a speech about being a homosexual and it was a fantastic. My only complaint with this movie were the explicit sex scenes. I have absolutely no issue with showing love and displaying that on the screen, but there were a few scenes that were pretty extreme. And this included both heterosexual and homosexual interactions. I’m just not sure they were needed. You can express love and passion without going as far as this movie did.
Overall, the story was fantastic and the acting was top-notch. If you don’t mind graphic sexual scenes, I say go see this film for sure.
